HydroloGIS was estabilishd in 2005 by the two charter members Antonello Andrea and Silvia Franceschi, both multi-year experienced in research activities at the Trento Engineering University.

Immediately located at the TIS innovation park of Bolzano as an Innovation Company operating in the environmental field, HydroloGIS is specialized in hydrologic, geo-morphologic and hydraulic development and modeling integrated in a GIS environment.

The development of environmental models to evaluate the variables needed to perform the engineering design, is carried on in co-operation with the Environmental and Civil Engineering Department of The Trento University and the University Center for the Mountain Environmental Defence (CUDAM). HydroloGIS co-operates actively in research projects also with the Informatics Department of the Bolzano University, and with the Geology and Earth Science Department of the Urbino University.

All the models developed by HydroloGIS are integrated into GIS JGrass, for which project HydroloGIS has in charge the world-wide coordination. JGrass is programmed in Java and is released under LGPL license.

The education and the complementary background of the company team provides the company itself with high competence in informatics and engineering. All the above grants to face the increasing requests for modeling on a wide scale and for developing applications aimed to the territorial analysis in various fields of activities as, for instance, buildings, industry, aviation and civil protection.

HydroloGIS contributes to various Open Source projects and is in the Project Steering Comittee of Udig and in the OpenMI Association Technical Committee
